Chelsea news: £90m signing value boosted by ‘top three’ Mo Salah, Luke Shaw and Virgil van Dijk

Salah’s maiden Premier League campaign in England has been considered by many to be a breakthrough campaign. The Egyptian has scored 20 league goals, seven more than the next most prolific marksman – Harry Kane – and has the best strike-rate of any player in Europe’s top five leagues, says Sporting Intelligence.

Salah, who scored 10 league goals during his maiden campaign in England and is now battling for player of the year honours, was a standout performer for Liverpool in their sixth straight league win to lead them top of the table.

When asked to name his top three most underrated stars of modern football, Salah’s name quickly came up. “I think there are so many guys I’d put in that category.

“I was on the biggest team in the world, I scored the most goals in the Premier League and in Europe last season. I think I’m considered a great player, but now I’m in the best club in the world – the biggest club in Europe. It’s a great feeling.”

One of the players Salah was put to in the interview was Luke Shaw, the Manchester United defender who spent the entirety of his time at Old Trafford on the fringes of Louis van Gaal’s team.

“To be out there and you see a lot of people that you look up to – and you probably should look up to – how they perform under pressure in every game, there’s not many better than Salah,” Shaw said.

“He’s an unbelievable player. You only need a glimpse of it. He can run, he’s unbelievable, he plays beyond the six-yard box, and I would love to have the talent of Mo Salah in the team.

“The moment I saw him first time at Anfield [when Liverpool beat Manchester United 1-0] – just how quick he was, he’s one of the quickest guys that I’ve ever seen. He can do everything.”
